[Aug 11, 2018] GIRS weekend at the Omaha Zoo (Omaha, NE)

    GIRS weekend at the Omaha Zoo/behind the scenes tour/speaker event

    Aug 11th & 12th

    Another great event brought to you by the Greater Iowa Reef Society.

    Each day, Sat & Sun there will be a behind the scenes tour at 1:00 on a first come first serve basis. If demand is greater than 20 people, members will have the first opportunity for the 20 spots. If demand is still high, we ask that 1 member per family attend. The zoo has requested only 18+ attend the tours.

    The tours, speakers, and dinner are free, however, you will still have to pay admission to the zoo.

    5pm Zoo Aquarist Tim Morrissey
    6pm Dinner
    7pm Zoo Aquarist Andy Hinrichs

    Tim Morrissey will give a presentation on Corals while is coworker Andy Hinrichs will give a presentation on Jellyfish.

    not 100% set yet, but tours will likely be around 1:00 each day. Presentations will be Sat evening at 5:00 and 6:30. Probably with food in between

    This sounds awesome! Ive been looking for a good excuse to go to the zoo. Ill have to check my work schedule.

    If you havent been to the zoo, they have one of the best aquariums in the nation IMO.

    Great aquarium, was just there a few weeks ago. The rest of the zoo is awesome as well. Great way to plan a weekend away with the family.

    The behind the scenes tour at the aquarium is definitely an opportunity you won't want to miss out on. Did it last time GIRS organized it. Awesome seeing all the equipment and happenings you usually wouldn't get to see. I don't think there are many hobbyists that wouldn't enjoy the experience.

    I would guess it would just be the general admission cost to the zoo, nothing extra.
    Looks like their group rates on admission start at 40 people and 3 weeks notice, that one might be hard to arrange, but there are coupons and stuff that pop up to help a little with admission pricing.
