Yellow Water?

So I have had my 29 gallon going for about two weeks now with live rock. As soon as I put the rock in the water (washed well before putting in tank) turned yellow the next day.  Since then I have done to ten gallon water changes, but doesn't seem to have helped or made it worse. Does any one have any ideas or suggestions on how to clean this up?

I would run some carbon and maybe a UV and see if that helps.

    Hey Troy,
I have been running carbon since the tank was set up, should I use more or are the pre bagged ones enough? I'm looking into a UV now, just can't decide on which one to get.

Sounds like rock might be leaguing. Try running a larger amount of carbon in a reactor if you have 1 handy. Pull the rock for a couple days and see how the water does then.

I used tap water that sat for a day then was treated. Rock is from Petsolutions. Never had this problem before with my other aquariums. I do not have a carbon reactor at this time. So I will have to put more in my canister. How do you fix leaguing? Can't say that I have heard of that? Thanks for everyones help on this.

I think he ment leaching, basically it needs to be cured yet. I am wondering what lights your running. Are they 10k by chance because they will make your water look a little yellow.

Leaching would make more sense. Not running my lights on my tank yet sense its still only two weeks and nothing but rock in the tank. I will do a test and see what the results say. Boiling would be really hard as the pieces of rock are so big.

get yourself a rubbermaid tub, add saltwater a heater and powerhead. keep the rock in there for a few weeks changing the water often. beware though, cooking rock does smell similar to skimate.

Ack!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/shocked.gif  What exactly do you mean "was treated"?  Use RODI water with the rock or you'll have problems with phosphates and probably algae down the road.  Tap water, especially here in Iowa, is full of junk :/  If you're soaking your rock in it, that stuff is going to go into your rock......better to use good stuff from the start and avoid long term issues.  I'd just use some loose carbon in a filter bag in an area that gets some water movement and keep changing it as needed, which might be frequently.  Are you running a skimmer?  You should be.......
If you choose to take your rock out and "cook" it in a Rubbermaid tub for a few weeks as suggested.  Use good RODI water......
