They are very, very thin and yellow (lighting?) but could be white or opaque. Thinner than a strand of hair. It comes from inside the rocks. It will lay on top the rock and, I have seen it sticking out of the rock, floating from the flow. I try to grab it with the tweezers and it will break (and float away) or retreat back into the rock At first, I thought it was probably detritus but it has since spread to other rocks. There's no way to get a picture, sorry as I'd like you to see it. There is no sign of a shell, tube or anything...the strand just comes out of the rock! Since it has spread to other rock, I want it gone! Any idea what it is? How to get rid of it?

    Thanks!!

Spaghetti worms look like that, but generally many strands coming out of one place. They feed on detrius and then go back in hole. Nothing to worry about as far as I know. First time I saw them (and several other things) in my tank I was freaked out too.
