i just bought a 120 gallon acyrlic 4x2x2. beautiful tank with custom built solid oak stand and canopy. i get it home and in the living room, and wife says it to big. what a bummer!! i moved it to several areas in living room trying to make the tank feel smaller. didn't work! just thinking of the quote that goes "if moms not happy, nobody is happy!"

so with that being said, does anyone have any suggestions? i tried telling her that it will feel smaller when it is up and running and beautiful. however im not sure it will. any comments on that? i think the 2 foot depth makes it feel so big. width and height not so much.

otherwise might have to sell and get smaller tank, or build a new bigger house.

    thanks,

    matt

build a bigger house. If the woman isn't happy with it now, it might be an uphill battle that's not worth fighting. I'd say for the mean time get something a little smaller. 90 gallons aren't bad. They are only 18" deep, so that might be a big enough difference to get her to agree on having it in the living room.

We have the same sized tank and it was a small battle at our house too. In the end, we put it in our family room in our basement where you walk down a hallway and see the side of the tank, and in the room, you see the front. I made my wife a part of the process by letting her guide me during the live rock aquascaping process once we found what would possibly be a good place for it (where it ended up in the end) and now she thinks it is neat how you can see the side and the front so easily and she likes the aquascaping because it doesn't look like a pile of rocks in there etc.

You just need to get her past the first stage of "that thing it too big" so that she can use her creativity to "decorate" your tank.

There is a lot of truth to this statement. We had a 210 in our old house which was originally "too big" but now that we are moving we are setting up a 280 and since it will be a reef and can't have all of the pretty but not reef safe fish my wife really likes we are going to build a 210 into a wall in the basement when we finish it....

She also has turned into quite a "reef-a-holic" too in that she is a very prolific 'fragger' and has amazed me with how much she has gotten into the hobby....

Stick it in a wall. Tanks always look small after you put them in-wall.

I was going to say get a bigger TV and bigger couches so that it seemed smaller, but this takes the cake. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif
