I have been noticing over the past several days that I've been getting tiny white spots on my glass - mainly my overflow glass box.  Then, I started to notice it also inside my acrylic sump - so far, just in the over flow compartment of the sump.  They do not move so I don't believe them to be any tube worms, feather dusters, or snails.  They are actually quite difficult to scrape off.  Anyone have suggestions on what they are.  They are about the side of a ' . ' dot.

I have the same thing Jason on the overflow and sump. Don't know what it is but it doesn't seem to do anything...I just keep getting more and more /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I will also get them on my rock and tank walls...some is coralline, others-just white spots. It's not precip from CA either so no worries, just ugly!

I get spots that are slightly larger than that, maybe 1/16". I think they are eggs from my nerite snails. Yours could be something similar

I don't think they are diatoms. They are extremely difficult to get off. I use my finger nail to scratch back and forth and they don't come off. Short of using a razor blade I don't know what else. If I didn't know any better (if if they were purple) I'd say it was coraline algae.

+1 on the eggs.  If you have a large amount in one general location and they look like they might be getting bigger those would be snail eggs.  I wish I could get mine to grow more but they never do for me anyway.  I have 3 nerite snails and about every 3 weeks or so I have a large collection of eggs on the left side of my tank.

I have had a TON of snail eggs laying in the corners and crevices of the tank...even on my hammer float. They are laying eggs all the time...slimmy stringy crap. Suppose this is the result of snails that have survived?

They are Spirobid worms. They are a harmless filter feeder.

Good, they help clean the water.

Bad, they are PIA to remove & can obstruct your view.

They are a pain to scrape off but they will come off. I had quite a few but then they died back and now I don't really notice them much.
