Iam not sure about anyone else, but before i choose a speaker, the topic they would be discussing would help me decide who i would like to see. I am just not familiar with the works of any of these people. I may be a minority on this but im sure iam not the only one.

I can give you general ideas
Matt Pedersen & Matt Wittenrich are fish breeders. They have each won memberof the year the last two years.
Scott Michael is an expert on Marine fishes with several books to his credit.
Sanjay Joshi is best known for his lighting studies, but his talk at MACNA on avoiding disasters with your aquariums was great.
Julian Sprung owns two little fishes & is a well known author.
Marc Leven (Melev) is a well known DIY person, website is Melev's Reef
    Bob Fenner
I would describe him as an 'all-around' saltwater guru. He's co-author of the following books:
    * The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists
    * Reef Invertebrates: An Essential Guide to Selection, Care and Compatibility
You can also write in other suggestions

    * Reef Invertebrates: An Essential Guide to Selection, Care and Compatibility

I vote for Bob Fenner just because he seems like a fun dude to hang out with and seems kinda crazy.

Though they are different people, Fenner used to work really close with Calfo. Reef Inverebrates is co-written with Calfo, and I believe WetWebMedia is too. Just some info for those who didn't know.

Man, that is a tough list to choose from. I hate to see Anthony Calfo not on it; yeah we've had him a couple of times and not alot of people showed at the lecture.....but people line up for his advice at his booth pretty much the whole show.

I would really like a speaker on coral identification....how do I know that is a birdsnest and not an Acro? sort of thing.

But the pirate in me only has one answer: Fenner.

Tough call but I would have to pick Sanjay.

  13. Foo

Sprung , because he's sort of a "old dog" in the hobby/trade with a wealth of knowledge to share.

That's a great list of speakers! I would also add Eric Borneman and Steve Tyree to the wish list. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

???? what do you mean MIA? I guess I had heard that he was a little put off and fed up with the reef aquarium trade at one point, but did he cut ties and go back to just lecturing at houston U?
I've read stuff by every author mentioned in the thread, except Sanjay, does he have some literature around, or is he just the guy to meet since he has such a phenomenal reef tank?

Im not sure what has happened to Borneman.  I used to exchange emails with him regularly, then he just stopped.  His forum on MD that he moderates same thing.  His son said his system has been hacked, but no one has heard from him since June.  Even Calfo who is a good friend of his said he has been very hard to get ahold of.  He was a really really busy before, now he might be trying to recover all his lost data.
Hopefully he will get things straightened out soon & get back to reefing.
Sanjay writes a ton of articles for different sites & magazines.  His main home I believe is the Manhatten Reefers.  He is pretty popular as he just flew to Europe last week to do a speaking tour over there.

I'd like to see Bob. I dont' recall ever seeing him lecture in Iowa.(At least the ones I went to). His book Concientous Marine Aquarist was the second book that I bought after Mike Paletta's book.

Wow, bummer dude! Yeah, I guess I knew that Sanjay had done some articles but, I kind of wondered if he had a book out, went to amazon to see, didn't find any. I love collecting books and (printed) reef literature, I always find that books usually contain the core mantra of an aquarists ideas and working theory (although many are not dissimilar) but I'm always pleased to discover the character behind the literature.

I would love to hear Sanjay come and talk to us about LEDs and how they compare to metal halides and T5s as far as lighting spectrum, growth over time, etc.
