A couple days after MACNA this magician's paly stopped opening up.  Since then the "stem" of the pally has ballooned up until it looks like this now.  Any thoughts on what could be going on?  I've moved it up and down in my tank for lighting purposes, in and out of stronger flow, and my water parameters have been pretty steady since it started to do this.

I bought it at reefgardener.net. Melting sounds bad...

Is there something crawling on it forcing it to close like flatworms?

Need more info. You said water params have been steady but what does this mean? How old is the tank? What are pH, Salinity, Nitrate and Phosphate. Also what lighting?
What else is happy or unhappy in the tank?

It started in my 4 month old tank and was migrated with everything else to my new tank yesterday because the old one sprung a leak. As far as parameters go, nitrates were around 15 ppm, nitrites at 0, pH in the 7.8 range, salinity at 1.024. I don't currently have a way to test phosphates. As to what else is happy/unhappy, I have 5 zoa frags that are all opening and not showing any oddities, and a paly frag that was sitting right next to this one that opens daily, a frogspawn and a torch both happy, a trumpet that puffs up nicely, a xenia that pulses away, a kenya tree that is fine, a ricordia frag that is doing fine, and a mushroom. The only things that aren't happy are a couple of SPS frags that I bought without doing my research and are dying a slow death. For lighting I have a 2 x 24 watt T5 setup with a 10k and an actinic.

Hmmmm, you said new tank. I assume all the rock, sand and water is from the old tank so things are cycled?? Params seem OK in general. How big a tank? I am assuming pretty small with that lighting. Have you tried shading him at all for awhile until he gets acclimated?
Was that vendor at MACNA?? I don't remember them. Did you dip it before putting it in your tank. I have had great luck with dipping Acans in Revive to get them to come back from the "dead". Todd Cherry recommended Furan 2 to me to get Palys to come back, I didn't personally have luck with that though.

All the rock, sand, livestock etc came out of my 29 and into my new 55, with some dead sand added to fill in. I had a small nitrate spike last night when I measured, but it looks like I avoided a mass die off on my rock. As to the lighting, I put it in the "pink" side of the tank as my son calls it, which has the crappy light fixture the 29 gallon came with when i bought it over it until I DIY up some LEDs in the next couple of weeks. The paly was in my 29 for about 3 weeks before it started to do this. Where in Des Moines can I find revive? I am willing to give it a shot.

As to the tank, it is in my garage. I was going to see about turning part of it into some baffles for a 10g sump.

I have an excellent glass cutter I picked up at the state fair but from what I hear taking apart a tank is not too much fun!
