i have older hamilton magnetic ballast, i believe they are pulse start.  was wondering what bulbs i can run on those.  i read on a couple bulbs they wont work with the pulse starts they need probe starts.  i am wanting good growth.  dont care about the blue toomuch right now i'll suplement actinics later but dont want yellows.  any help would be appreciated

I may be wrong, but you should be able to use any pulse start bulb.
If you are wanting more growth use 6500-10,000k bulbs! The 6500k's maybe to yellow, but have the best growth potential.
I like the 10,000k for growth and color, IMOP.

I'd stick with an xm 10 or 15k, they are cheaper and they have good color.

I run 10K, and I can't tell the difference of the wall behind my tank when looking through the tank or next to it. It's like crystal clear with no tint at all. It's yellowish when they come on for a few minutes, but that's it.
