What make / style of camera do you use for tank / coral shots? Do you use the same for general use? If you could get a different camera, what would you get?

Nikon D90 and Nikon D300. I use a Nikon 18-105mm Nikon VR lens, a Nikon 60mm 1.8f Micro Nikkor Macro lens, and a Nikon 70-300mm lens. If I could buy again, I would buy ony the D300 and only 2 lenses 200-500mm 3.5 VR, and an 18-200 2.8 Nikon VR.

I have a Nikon D60 I use.  Haven't played around with it much on the tanks lately life has been pretty crazy lately but it does a really nice job for a entry level dslr.  I perfer nikon myself just what I am used to I guess.  Cannon would be the only other thing I would even consider, but either way a like Andy mentioned 18-200mm lens is a must.  Handles 90%+ of your pictures.  Right now I have the 18-55 lens it came with and a 55-200 and constantly wanting to switch but rarely wanting less or more so 18-200 lens would be perfect for us.  I may upgrade and then I'll get the 18-200.

I use the Nikon D5100 with a 35mm fixed focal length, F/1.8. I like the fixed focal length F/1.8 because it takes very natural looking pictures. With the F/1.8 the lens can let in a lot of light which means you do not have to use the flash. The Nikon D5100 also takes HD video which is always nice.

Here's a picture of my camera. Can anyone help me take better pictures? I'm interested in taking better macro shots!

I'd recommend using the white flashbulbs instead of the blue. Otherwise, looks great!

    I really like the Brownie....very classy !

The Nikon seems to be the camera of choice...at least for those that responded. I've seen Andy's tank tank shots and they're pretty amazing, so I think it's a good recommendation. As for the differences between the various Nikons...I'd have to do some reading. Dang....and they're pricey too !!

    Thanks

We also have a Nikon D5100 (as of last weekend) with 18-55mm, 55-300mm and 85mm macro lenses. Still figuring out how to use it though so certainly not an expert by any means.
