My reef only get a water change every couple months. Ideally I would like to see it bi-weekly, but it is hard to do with the kids running around. I only really push a water change if things start to slow down or not look quite happy. I agree with JB in that a balanced tank should not need frequent changes. I too have no algae growth using this method and believe a little dirt is good for your corals. /site/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I do around 10-15 gallons a week on my 90/20. Half the time I throw that water into my 55/20 system. If I feel I have issues like today I'll do a 15-30 gallon change and then do a scheduled change when ever that is.

right now ive only been doing about 5 to 7 gallon water changes per month... im hoping to increase that to probably 2 or 3 times a month once we get an rodi unit...

as long as the water stays clear i wouldnt worry about it... but for us were still cycling and we get diatoms and cyno so i try to vac those out..

    75 gallon tank/29gal sump/5 gal bucket refugium
For fish I have: hippo tang, 3 chromis, ocellaris clownfish, maroon clownfish, sixline wrasse and a flame hawkfish.
For inverts I have: porcelain crab, blue linckia starfish, several BTAs and two crocea clams. Also have various SPS, LPS and soft corals
    everytime I test I have 0 nitrates
My only issue right now is cyanobacteria and I think that will go away once my skimmer is fine tuned.

Cool tibbs, sounds like you have a nice tank. Hopefully one day my tank will be stable enough that I won't have to do water changes.

Most of my water changes are just to add the trace elements back in. I also feel my tank is like peoples homes every winter. We don't realize our house's have stale air in them until the first nice day. And then everyone goes "Oh the spring air smells so good."
