watching a starfish

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by joshua.jebe, Jan 8, 2013.

  1. welli have been watching a orange linckia starfish that we got from AC&C in november and this guy cruzes around our tank all the time but ocassionally he hangs near the water surface and extends back with 2 to 3 of his arms in open water and his hegs pick at the surface tension ( slower moving surface water here) so i was intrigued and have been reading up as the wife has found pictures of a blue and purple one she is curious on possibly getting.

and lastnight i found him about 2" under a maxijet 1200 doing the bending branches lean and he had a slime ozzing off his legs so i got a little nervous and have been reading up frantically to see what was going on. eventually he let loose of the tank and went sailing in the current . i have had the kids tell me he did this b4 but i was skeptical till i witnessed it last night.

so in reading today i found this article on them i would like to share.

it is funny to think that the starfish culd of been releasing eggs or sperm in the slime it was emiting under the maxijet .
