I am looking for a SMALL Moorish Idol (prefred already eating) and a clownfish that has hosted an anenome and will get along with my Ocellaris. I have a Long tenticle and Sebea Aneneome and looking for a decent clown.

Please let me know if anyone has either one /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

Its definitely possible, but someone local having a good one established that they are willing to sell is going to be the hard part. We had a few for quite awhile. Bad thing is you get in 10, and one or two will live. Not worth it to me.

I know, they are just such an amazing fish, I wish I could stay away. I am from Minneapolis originally just moved to Iowa few months ago... They were easy to come across up there.... I will post pictures of them soon, they are beautiful.

There is a LFS in Appleton WI, that has two and I watched them eat Mysis this last weekend.

It could have been a Heinochus sp. as they are very similar and I have seen them sold by stores as the Moorish Idol.

I appreciate the concern for accuracy, but as I already said there were two Moorish Idols.

    They also had one Heinochus.

Check out live aquaria or ibluewater.
    They sell them.

Keeping idols has become much easier in more recent years... If you baby them /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

    Exactly,

If you're serious about keeping one (don't be first of all) start picking dandelions now.

Allow me to follow up on that thought. Can a moorish idol (or any fish) be sustained merely on mysis shrimp alone? Some would say, "sure, I've got fish that eat noting but mysis shrimp and they're still thriving after 3 years." These are the same people that have no idea why the fish die in the 4-5th year and have never heard about fatty liver disease. The answer is a resounding: not really.

Will the fishes behavior change suddenly after time, or when introduced to more boysterious feeders? Yes of course, the fish will likely become sheepish and refuse to eat. Either because of chronic pestering, or of it's own volition. Not to mention the natural food source for these fish is sponges and in no way resembles frozen fare commonly offered.

In short, don't be sold on a fish just because it's eating at the LFS. It's a good indicator, but it's far from the sign of a sure thing.
