Hey I found a piece of rock that i really like. it came from a reef somewhere, but its been sitting in someones garden for who knows how many years. I dont know the exact process of trying to get it live again, so right now i just have it in an ice cream bucket with some of my water change water sitting in the dark closet.
If anyone has some tips, please let me know /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

if it came from a garden..... put it back. Your looking at far more problems than good with something like that. If you need a rock that bad I have about 250lbs of dry rock in my fish room I'll give you a piece

To be honest I have done this before using a super bad-*** septarian nodule (cool rock) I found in an old rock garden. I can't say for sure if the rock itself was to blame but the tank was always plagued with nuisance algae and I could never keep SPS alive.

How long do you think things could "leech" out of a rock anyway? It could take months, years maybe even depending on the saturation and density of the rock itself.

If it were me I would just leave it in the rock garden and take Glaspie69 up on his offer for free base rock.

I wonder what Tru-Green lawn fertilizer would do to a tank.....

One more thing to think about. A lot of rock gardens are spayed with stuff to stop weeds and pests. If the rock is really porous then all that stuff is soaked into the rock as well.

Disappointing advice, huh? I'd be reluctant to use it as well. Sorry...
