I got my big Reef Ready 220 Tank and now I am sitting here thinking of all the things I will need to get this bad boy going.

    My list is as followed

First off deciding to go Reef or just fish and this is a hard one, but I am thinking a reef, but with very easy corals.

    1. Lighting=LED DIY Options

    2. Filtration including Skimmer, pumps and more

    Skimmer

    Return pump

    Powerheads/Wavemakers

    Size

    3. Build Stand and Canopy. I know what I want here. lol

    4. Substrait

Sand I am thinking a mix of larger sea sand

    5. rock

    Live rock

    dry rock

    6. Plumbing

Flex hose bulk heads and so on.

So if any one wants to chim in on my build for help please do so. This will be a very slow build, but I will get there.

One recomendation on a tank that size is to use a sea swirl on your return, or even use two and break up the return.

You may be able to eliminate one or all of your powerheads with them. I love mine.

Start out with good marco rock & carib sea live sand if you are going to take it slow. It really cuts down on the annoying hitch hikers. Bad thing is that it takes longer.

Maybe skip skimmer and go ATS. A skimmer for that size of a tank gets expensive. Well Saltwaternewbee has a MR2 buckett foam skimmer, 1 pump setup going for $350 or a 2 pump setup for $400. If I had the money I'd be buying it for my tank since my reef octopus collection cup is shot.

Do you have the sea swirls in stock Craig? If so how much?

No they are an order item. Dont sell enough to justify that much money sitting on the shelf.

    They usually run around $250

agree on the sea swirl. They are great.

they finally released the powerhead rototor as well, I am considering getting one of those and a tunze to add a little more random flow to the tank.

Two sea swirls and 4 tunzes on my 220. I would agree, the sea swirls are great.

Ok I have a Sump Idea, What do you think? I may not have it all planed out, but its basic and would like all comments. I know I put center baffle to bottom of tank, but think of it as being just 2" from bottom. [IMG]

Don't know what you are putting in the fuge but if you have mud or sand, you might want to put the ball valve all the way to the right and then add a couple baffles so your inlet does not stir the sand and stuff. If just LR and Chaeto, probably won't matter.
