I do what you do. I would almost have to rip my tank down to get my skimmer out.

Great info guys. Keep it coming I wish I could only clean my cup once every 1 to 2 weeks. I have to clean my cup out every other day. Is that too often?
This is what it looks like in 24 hours or so. its more wet then dry. I think its a good mix of wet and dry for me, but how do you really tell its good? If I let it go 2 day or so it gets even more thick of a skim in the chamber of the cup and have to scrap my finger around it to clean it.

personaly i think you have it running to wet, but if you can keep up on the top off for your system and it's working for you then i wouldnt change it. My skimmer is turned down so it produces more of a slime with some water instead of the light brown water you are getting.

After 24 hours it starts to really get paste like inside the cup and in the neck of the cup. I have a diy auto top off.

then that sounds about right, my skimmer runs really wet right after i have cleaned it out but then backs down after a few hours. i have to use a toothbrush to clean my cup out once a week, i can let it go up to 2 weeks but i try not to.

Yep sounds like mine if i let it go. I have let ot go as long as a week then i feel i have to clean it. Lol i was thinking it makes the skimmer work harder.
