A year ago I bought 2 scooter blennies and the first one disappeared 2 months ago no trace like most small fish. Today I found the other one which seems almost dead and super skinny. My tank is established 4 years. Are these fish just not lived long?

Marine fish can live for many, many years but they have a shorter lifespan in the glass cages unfortunately. More than twenty years is common in the Oceans. It sounds like the Scooter has not thrived in your tank...it could be because of several reasons Justin. It may not have gotten the food it needed, it may have gotten sick recently, it may have been harrassed by another(s) fish....it's just hard to tell. One year seems a short time for it so if you are thinking of replacing it, you may want to go with a different fish...maybe a watchman goby/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've been reading online that they can be very picky eaters. They may at times only eat copepods which I had a ton of these a year ago and now dont ever see any. Hey Sponge I'd like to come see your tank sometime if your around and that's ok?

scooters arent as bad as mandarin gobies from my experience, but they do both sometimes eat only pods. They can deplete through those pretty fast in a tank though. I have had them clean the tank out and then die before I realized I had to buy some additional pods for them. They are very picky eaters. Also if you have any shrimp, the shrimp seem to harass them sometimes pretty bad because they are all bottom dwellers...but sometimes they get along just fine.

PS, lawnmower blennies are much easier to keep and just as fun to watch, plus they eat algae so its a win-win!
