    Hi all
Some of you may recall the tank that the Alternative Reef will be donating at MACNA.  They have chosen the Smouse School for the tank.
The tank has been up & going for 6 months, so it is in good shape now.
We need a couple of volunteers to help the school with the tank.  First we need the tank taken down from the show, and set up at the school on Sunday afternoon.  Then the school will need some mentoring on the tank until they are confident/competent to take care of it.  They have a few teachers that is interested in working with us on it.
Let me know if you are interested in helping.
    Craig

I can help, and the school is just a few blocks from my home. I can also donate food and what-ever else they may need along the way.

I would be happy to help out. I live about 30 miles from Des Moines but work in the Des Moines area. Probably wouldn't be able to be primary point of contact but can help out.

They can have a few bags of DIY reef food, I have a ton left in my freezer (like 25 bags)

I would volunteer time but I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me.

    Thanks everyone.

We are getting some funds to help cover the cost of maintenence for the tank. The hope is to sell frags of some of the high end corals in there to cover ongoing future expenses. There is a ton of high end corals in there.

Also I need someone to committ to setting it up on Sunday afternoon of MACNA.

I can help set up on Sunday afternoon. How big of a tank is it?

Its a 90 gallon cube tank & stand. Two people should be able to do it easily.

    Thanks

So when this gets moved, will it be re-starting as a new tank, or will there be fish and corals going with it?

Craig, I have the same question.  I assumed from your original post that it is a stocked tank since it sounds like it has been running for awhile.  If so, are there provisions for moving the lifestock  & water (tubs etc)?  thanks

NO it will be the up & running tank that it has been. It has not fish, he is going to give the school money to buy their own fish. Hopefully we should be able to drain the water into containers. coral into tubs, get it over, set it up, and refill.

I don’t know if this would help any but I can get around 20 5 gal buckets with lids. I would just ask for them back after the move. I used the 5 gal buckets to move my tank from Kansas city to Waukee a couple months back.

I have many buckets also (20+) but short on lids. HD changed their lids a few months ago and they are total cr@p now, so the old lids are like gold to me.

    Hi Craig,
How is the tank getting to MACNA from where ever it is now? Will there be containers available from the move to MACNA that we can use to move it to the school? Just trying to figure out what the expectations are and to know if we need to take Bud or Taz up on the offer for loaner buckets..... Thanks!

I have 2 small tubs that I use to transport corals in. I can also put a 125 gallon holding tank in my van to transport the water????

Good thought.  We could bucket the water to your tank for transport if we don't want to deal with 15-20 buckets....
