I was wondering if anybody has used silica sand for salt water fish only tanks?
I used a lot of the stuff for african cichlid tanks.  It is cheap and has a nice look.  Thought I would ask

I have a 29 FO with silica sand and have had no problems. It is the extremely fine sand found in the masonry section at Home Depot.

I use it all the time in cichlid tanks. I figure if it works for that it would work for FO Salt.

Fixed the link...there was a space at the end. It works now.

I found the article. Seems like a lot of mixed feelings on it from what I read.

I did not read the article all the way, but it seem like all the material was for a reef tank. My tank would be a 180 fish only.

I know when using silica in freshwater tanks, the silica sand does a good job with keepin and establishing a good bacteria for the tank.
