I now have a mag 3 running but it is too noisy for my liking.  Back in the day.....I had a quiet one and it acctually was really quiet.  Are these still good pumps and are they still quiet?  Or are there better ones out there that are just as quiet?

I like my Mag. I'm running at mag 7 for my 65 and I haven't noticed it is too loud. If it happens to be barely touching an edge of something it'll make vibrating noises but otherwise isn't too bad. I haven't had much for other return pumps though so don't have anything to compare it to.

I agree, if it is loud, then something is wrong. Usually you cant hear a MAG

Well...I took it apart and the ceramic shaft is broken. I am guessing I broke it when I took it apart or it was already cracked and I just finished it off. What now? Has anyone ever seen these shafts replaced with a stainless steel one?

Yes you can new shafts fairly cheap for them.

yes...but that does not help me out now. I was able to take a shaft out of a maxiJet mod impeller and make it work. Surprisingly it is not any louder than it was before.

Is it any quieter though? getting a proper mag shaft may help reduce the noise. And your maxijet one may not last very long depending on how durable the manufacturers made them.

It is about the same as far as the noise goes. I am just glad that I was able to get it going...even though it would have been no big deal since I just put water in the tank last night. I will get a new shaft for it but in the meantime I just need it to last a few more days. I ordered a quiet one 1200. I really liked that pump in the past.
