Reefkeeper vs. Apex?

The Reef Angel does seem to be very tempting. I too am looking to upgrade from the AC Jr I have. However I am a big believer of you get what you pay for (speaking about new items not great deals you find here).

 

I couldn't be happier with the Reef angel the possibilities are endless with it I have had it for over 2 years without any problems

 

When I rebuild the 2nd thing I am getting is a RA. They dont have retail as the guy that builds then does it all by hand in his home office. He can customize the programming when you order it to. The forum/user community is the support team but beware they are crazy and will answer your simple question with an 8 chapter book due to details. one guy on the forum made the desktop software just for fun and has updates weekly for it. If you are really wanting to compare differences I'd ask to see an apex, Reefkeeper, an Reef Angel in person to really be able to make the decision. Testimonies do help but having the device in your hand going through menus and see what the thing really does in person is what I consider a selling point to me. The 2nd biggest thing the sold me was all the add ons pre-built to work with the RA after a minor code update and restart to get them working is really nice. The only bad thing I dont like about the RA is the timeframe to get it. Like I said he hand builds them.

 

1) Can the Reef Angel integrate a IP Camera easily?

2) What does the Web interface look like?

3) Does it have 32-bit microprocessor and a built-in web server?

4) Apex head unit comes with built in Temp,PH and ORP ports does the RA?

There part sold separate seem to be more money from when I did my research. Break out box RA=89 Apex BOB=39
PMV1,2,3 are all under a $95.00

PH for RA is 109,ORP 119 for there expansion Modules.

OK maybe you should look it up kpotter Yep you do buy it separate but when u add it all together it's still cheaper because last time I checked apex you still have to buy all of those probes that you mentioned where the Reef angel comes with them

 

And the Ph probe and temp probe come with it for 220.... so read everything before you say stuff lol..... so add salinity and orp expansions which come with probe your talking total what 420 add Wi-Fi 520... so for 520 you can get a whole lot more then you can with the apex for 500.... try adding a salinity probe, and orp to the apex what is that like 700+ for a total

You can add a salinity probe for like another $140 and still be cheaper then an apex with just orp......

 

I mean no disrespect at all army. I did look up some of it, but its just way to much reading for me. lol They are both very good at what they do and we can agree on that.

I looked at buying the RA and I decided it was not for me. I don't like the look of it over the Apex. Not very many people have them and that is strange. Even know I am a computer Geek and have been for 25plus years the open source thing still didn't do it for me as i thought it may.

Guess I just know Jason and know its not the controllor he would like in the long run, but no one has one in our area that I know. He could be the first. lol

I would love to see one in action someday. Also how is the Web interface really, because I have heard its ok, but not much to the eye.I think this club is the best please to get these devices and test them and see what the nitty gritty is on.

Yes it really isnt that that eye appealing but for everything I have it doing and the little knowledge that I have with programing it works perfect for me and I know when I tinker with it more I will gain more knowledge lol.... Hopefully someone else from the club does get one then we can share codes lol.....

 

I just wanted to make sure I didn't come off as a A Hole ether and I am so fare from it. lol I think it would be good for the club to get one and test it for our club members and then maybe action it off at a fest or something. I think with all things you getting better with just tinkering with it. I spent like 8 hours or more one day working on Apex . lol My wife said what the hell are you doing running up and down the stairs looking at you computer then your phone then this and that.
