Well Marry Xmas to me. I got up and my RBTA was moving around the tank. Just about 15 minutes ago it was found stuck in my small Power head just a little bit. I sure hope it survives. The foot was still planted, but some of the tips and stuff got sucked in and got damaged. I am thinking that it will be fine since you can cut them in half and they survive.
    Anyone ever have this happen?
    Thanks
    Kyle

    Merry Christmas.

This is actually fairly common and is why people recommend you put guards on your powerheads if you have nems. Pay extra attention to the nem cause if by chance it does decide to die it can poison your entire tank. Run lots of carbon to help things out.

Well it is moving from the area now. I am sure the small power head (koralia Nano) was starting to suck it in, but just a portion it got pulled in to the outer screen of the impeller. Casing some of his tips to get damaged, but I think he will be fine. Is there a way I will know he is going to die? I mean he looks ok now. Other then a little damage? He started to move around a few days ago and stayed put again tell last night. I thought nothing of the power head even just an hour ago when he was real close to it. [IMG]

I had one do the same thing, he was fine for a few months and then disappeared. Literally. No idea where he went, but I've had 3 or so now I think that have literally just disappeared in my tank so I haven't messed with roses since. He doesnt look too bad though in the pic, but keep an eye on him. Target feed him and keep the tank parameters in check and he should be fine. IF he does decide to walk towards the light, pull him out before he becomes a poisonous concern as mthomp pointed out. Silly roses!

Hope he is ok. Mine has decided to latch on to the back wall. (conveniently where he is hard to see.) I hope he moves to a better area soon. Best of luck to yours. I sure he will heal right back up. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

good thing it was a koralia nano. My 12"+ RBTA wandered too close to my MP40, it ended with pink slime in my skimmer and and a cloudy tank.

Yeah I target feed him Krill once a week and use white snow to filter feed the whole tank. I think he looks worse in the photo then it really is, but I will keep an good eye on it for awhile.

yeah I am very happy it was only a nano.
I think he will be fine. I just with my Clowns would host him already.

Keep your water quality high as it will help promote healing (wc's & carbon). Watch the tentacles for bacterial/fungal infection. Where it's at/located on the tank wall; it needs to move. Take your time and point a powerhead at it until it lets go. Don't "blast" it but put enough flow on it to encourage it to move/let go. You don't want to injure its' foot but sometimes when it has let go of the wall/rock, you can very gently tickle it at the foot and encourage it to move/let go quicker. If you don't want to make it move, either turn off the powerhead that it's next to or move the powerhead...just asking for more problems if you don't. "Most" rose nems won't move as long as you have placed them (initially) in a location that meets their needs (flow, lighting, etc). They will move if they are sick or something is bothering them(invert/fish picking on them/etc). Occasionally they will move right before splitting but usually they will just move their foot to an adjacent rock to help with splitting. Everyone with a nem should have sponge filters over the powerheads and ensure the nem is not too close to a pwerhead and overflow. We need to be responsible stewards...they don't encounter powerheads in the oceans so we need to be thinking/watching what our livestock is doing.......

    Thanks Sponge

I think it was moving because I replaced my Powerfilter with a BakPak Skimmer. It had been in place on a rock there and never moved until I did this. I am sure it was water movement that made it move.
