Just ordered leds for my bio cube. Now who wants to put them together when they show up? /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

Actual have been considering joining, just feel the lack of discussions is holding me back. I think with the number of people that visit the site and are members, there should be more discussion. The latest one that started up today about weekend plans is a good start

Not meaning to hijack your thread, but why is it when someone needs help this pops up all the time. What happened to helping each other out irregardless of whether there a member or not. If I am out of line I apologize, but just seems to me this comes up a lot.

Moneypit and Djvanzuuk I agree with both of you thats exactly why i havent joined in the past year and a half, and thats also why i havent been on here verry much anymore. Its not about the money its about helping people out and everytime i saw someone that wasnt a paying member asking a question the answer to their questions would always be the same "If you became a paying member" and i hate that. I have been on here alot of times asking for help and on alot of the questions i ask not a single reply has been made on them and i really really hate it. Like i said it shouldnt be about the money it should be about passing on what you know to someone else thats getting into the same hobby... I see members that ask basically the same question and withing a hour or so after they ask they usually get a answer to their question. But when i ask it usually never gets answered.... Sorry Djvanzuuk for saying this on your post but i had to get it out why i have never joined and why i probably wont ever join..

I on the other hand have never discriminated against any non memebers and actually have never even noticed it before, but im sure it happens.. I dont understand why anyone would care if they were a paying member since im pretty sure this site was formed to connect hobbiest together and make the reefing society stonger.. But what do I know?

Anyways if your in the QC area give me a PM and I could help you sometime..

Keep in mind its the money from membership that keeps this web site and this club going so if it wasn't for the paying members you wouldn't have this site at all. look at it like this how does it make you feel to bust your butt at work for 40 hours a week and pay taxes while some dead beats sit at home and do nothing and reap the rewards of your hard labor and not contribute a thing its the same basic principle

My first day here I had three different people lend me a helping hand a Nik even gave me some live rock right out of his own sump.

I became a paying member the next day without being solicited.  #twocents

Edit:  I didn't mean to hijack either...to address the additional post, I'd be willing to help if needed.  PM me if you want.

First, apologies for the hijacking of this thread.
Second, I think the fact that this site and this group exists is fantastic. I've only recently started being active and everyone's been really supportive and helpful. I've planned on joining. It hasn't been clear to me what membership entails. It's not that expensive, for sure. I'm just getting my new tank off the ground (literally) and when that settles down...
It sounds like there's a philosophical split here. Many folks are willing to view this as a club that's open and offers membership as a perk. Others seem to have a different view. I suppose that's to be expected. I'm new here and don't know all the history.
I do know this: comparing a voluntary hobby club to the taxation/welfare system and non-member participants as freeloaders makes me very uncomfortable.

Joining the site is cheap and everyone who has an aquarium can afford it, so that should never be an issue. I think we need to figure out why someone won't join and try to resolve that issue.

Back to the topic leds sent out today so soon enough I will take of all your gratitude

I would have long ago tore down my tank if it wasn't for the help of the members on this club. If you don't join I don't think you will ever realize all the benefits you are missing out on. To me its worth the $20 fee to ensure a future of this club and the resources it provides. To you it may not be. I've got no problems answering questions from non members and I think saying that non-members questions don't get answered is a little ridiculous. I am a member and have posts go unanswered. Its usually more to do with the topic of the post than with the poster. I never even pay attention to membership when I am replying to a thread. But if someone asks for something a little more involved than a simple thread reply I would also encourage them to join the club. Each member that we can get to join is more strength to the community to ensure long term growth and success.

I apologize for my rant I had just gotten my paycheck for the week and saw that I paid over $400 in taxes and I was a little upset
I will answer any questions for both members and nonmembers alike but I am unwilling to physically help someone that is not willing to help out the club by becoming a member

now back to the original question I would be willing to basically assemble the whole fixture for free like I have done for other people if you are a member that right there is worth the $20 joining fee. it takes about 3-4 hours to assemble the kit for a bio cube from rapidled

money from the member discounts will recover the money spent for membership in no time. thats my opinion

Ahhh. The good old membership discussion. Lol im sure others will agree with me when i say the main teason they dont join the club is because of the constant "if you were a member" line. I 100% agree that its beneficial to the club but, i dont like the constant lack of helpfulness to unpaid members.

Well one resource we have is monthly meetings. SO.. in July I will be hosting a BBQ with food and EVERYONE will walk away with some free gifts. We will learn how to use a par meter (which you can then borrow from the club), a majano wand, and Bud will be demoing algae scrubbers. It will be a great time and all paid for by the club. Non-members are welcome to come to one evnt a year and this will be a good one. We should have a quite a few board members and trustees on hand to answer any questions. Date is still being nailed down. More to follow.
