I read a lot of people in RC using it to save on cost of 2 part.
what are your thoughts on using these things in your reef?

I read up on it, but didn't like the idea of sulfate building up in the system over time. I'm not sure if this is also in BRS's 2-part kit, but it scared me away from it. It also seemed like too much headache trying to find all the ingredients, making it up, and then figuring out a dosing regime compared to the low cost of BRS's 2-part.

I have been using it for years. BRS got their start from this recipe. I definately reccomend it. Adam what about sulfur build up, explain more please, I don't remember anything about that. I assume this is from the magnesium sulfate?

I think I am going to do a little more research on this. potential DIY meeting.

I use this to adjust my parameters when needed. Never had trouble with it.

Again, I'm not sure if this is a bad thing, I just didn't want to deal with it. For everyone who does this, how much money does it save? I never really priced everything out, but it just didn't seem worth it. I might try making it after what I have runs out.
This is from the article. It's found by the bottom, right above the summary:
Figure 5. Sulfate concentration as a function
of time when performing daily water changes equivalent
to 0% (no changes), 7.5%, 15% and 30% of the total volume
each month (in other words, 0%, 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% per
day). In this example, sulfate starts at a natural level
of 2710 ppm, and the model assumes the usage of a moderate
amount of calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate to
maintain calcium and alkalinity, and Epsom salts (magnesium
    sulfate) to maintain magnesium.

I was actually planning on this, but I decided to talk to Bulk Reef Supply first since they are one of our best sponsors and they donated a bunch of 2 part kits to the meeting.

I used to make Mg by the 5 gallon bucket using Randy's recipe's. Never had any issues, and like mentioned it's where BRS got their start.
