    Hello everyone-
I currently have two regular clowns.  Guess I'm not sure on the technical names.  But I'm also wanting to get black and white clowns or just one.  I have read that you can't put them together and other places I have read you can.  I have a 29 gallon reef Bio Cube.  I'm not planning to get them any time soon but was just curious if any of you have tried this or advice against it?
    Thanks,
    Crystal

If they are small, and you do 2 pairs, you may be ok, but generally the rule is one pair for a tank that small,

but hey, rules are made to be broken, just keep an eye on them for fighting.

I tried a pair of black perc clowns with a pair of regular percs in a 120 and it was a near immediate battle. Percs are more of the mellow type too. In any event, I wouldn't try it or if you do, have an immediate backup plan for removal of the loser(s).

I have a set of Oscellaris Orange& a piar of Blacks
They do fine, The Orange host a seabae, and the Blacks host a BTA
And most of the time the 1 Orange is in with the Blacks hosting the BTA.. The clowns are not full grown as of yet, 1 pair is about 8-10months & the other is 6 months... This is a 120 G... I've seen them peck at each other when feeding occurs, nothing bad though....

    Goodluck

There are a few variables that can increase your chances of successfully keeping more than one pair of clowns; starting with similarly sized clowns when they are young, providing anemones for each pair, and the size of tank are the primary variables that will factor into your success. I don't want to rain on your parade, but the size of your tank is something that I believe would keep you from being successful as 29 gallon is too small for more than one pair of clownfish. I really think you would end up with just the one pair one way or another. However, as several others have already posted, there can be success in larger tanks. There is even a thread on RC about a person raising 20+ clowns in the same tank. The tank is 220g, almost all of the clowns were raised from the same clutch, and there are many anemones in the tank.

I have a saddle back pair and a perc pair in my 300gal they seem to get along but each pair stays on there side of the tank and hardly ever goes to the other side except during feeding. I also have a maron clown and a picasso perc in a 75 together they fight once in awhile but in general get along ok

    Agreed.
I currently have an ocellaris with a percula in my biocube and they are getting along great after their initial fighting for a day or two. Before that I had a b/w with an ocellaris that got along great from day 1 until they got velvet/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/crying.gif. I like to have the variation in color.
I think mixing a single ocellaris or percula with a single maroon, clarkii, or skunk clownfish might be a problem though. I have never tried this or read about people trying it either though, so others may be able to shed more light on it.

I have a slight qualification to that.
1+1 is always ok....as long as 1+1 does not equal two established females.  If the one you are adding to the existing is either a juvi, unsexed, or a male, you will be fine.

Well, I know what you meant...just would hate to see someone buy a single clown from somebody that has been by itself for a while and try to pair it up with thier own female.
