Just bought a mag 12 from BigD and replaced my Rio1100 which is only 382 gph. So reality a trickle to a ton of water. Its really loud in my sump but I put the bio balls back in to quiet it. Can I over kill water movement to my sump?

You dont want too much flow that your skimmer or other reactors cant process the water coming in fast enough. You can always make a baffle to divert some of that flow to power skimmers reactors etc.I put a tee in my return line with some shut off valves to bring water to my algea scrubber and uv sterilizer.

Travis your an idiot. None of that makes any sense. And thanks Roman I might put a shut off on it. I will give it a few days. I think my skimmer is doing ok now that I actually have flow through it.

Any chance you can extend the drain so the output is underwater? I suppose that might just result in flushing noises so maybe not worth it.

  12. justin if you get back this way i would love one of those green shrooms from the 75 in the basement, that peice i got from you the wife really likes and contrasts nice to those orange yumas.

let me know if anything works out. and the AOG zoas i got just started to unclamp last night and the acan is looking happier as well.

you want to give the water in your sump time to be used by the bio filters and your mechanical filters. too fast and it gets no reaction time. you can trhrottle your pump back with a gate valve. or tee it off to run media reactors, scrubbers. whatever you want

I have both valves but will play it out a bit. Seems my skimmer is skimming more now that more water is coming in.
