So, my skimmer pump stopped running strong. It is still pushing water but not enough to actually bubble for protein skimming. How long can I run my system without skimming the water? The skimmer is a CPR Bak-Pak 2 skimmer on my 55 gallon. No sump. I have a few fish, one BTA, some softies, an acropora, 2 types of caps, and that's about it. Trying to find out if I can wait for a rio rtv pump in the mail or need to get something running sooner. Thanks for the help!

What kind of pump do you right now? I run a mj1200 on my CPR and I have found that I need to pull pump apart and clean everything.
Then it pulls so much I dump every other two days. And it's on a 46gal bow. All in all the mj1200 works very well for me.

Well, mine was running well enough that I had to clean the cup once a day. Now it no longer is pushing much water. I tried to look into opening it but can't seem to see how to clean it.

The pump says it is a Rio+ 600 aqua pump/powerhead. Not sure how to clean it. It does not seem to open up. Lol.

you should be able to take it apart to clean it. If you cant get it apart try puting it in a bucket of viniger and water let the pump run for about an 1hr or so, rinse it real good with tap water before putting it back in your tank. also make sure you check the air inlet (on the pump) for any salt creap or calcium.

So, I went and looked again. I was able to take it apart. There was a little bit of green slime on the magnet. I cleaned it and it seems to be running a bit better. Could that really been a problem for the pump?

I use to own one of these and it gets clogged where the airline connects to the pump with salt creep. Use a tack of a toothpick, nail, etc., once a month for the best performance. If a piece of algae gets stuck in the needlewheel impeller it will slow it down. I had 1 little piece of capulara algae and it stopped my bubbles cold.

+1 on cleaning the venturi and you may want to replace the air line tubing, as it also gets clogged with salt/lime/whatever.
