par or lux meter?

I want to be able to check the light intensity of my LEDs and make adjustments based on concrete data. Obviously a par meter is better, but can the same thing be accomplished with a lux meter? I have looked on a few online vendors sites and see that they do not carry par meters in their inventory, but do sell the lux meter.

 

im pretty sure there are a few par meters in the club i have a lux meter my self i live in des moines area

 

I considered that, my problem is I am in NW Iowa and not close to many club members.
