Hey I have a yellow mimic tang that has become sluggish and is kinda floating sideways. I checkd my paramaters, salinity is 1.023 , nitrates are higher than normal at between 7 and 13 ppm, ammonia is barely registering over zero. ph is at 7.8. thats all i have tests for. i could test for nitrite i spose. havnt done that yet. temp is 79 degrees. diet consists of some flake and some frozen. have had him 15 days.
The only thing I can think of is that i havnt offered him much for veggies. would that make him start acting like this after 15 days? hes got alot of hair algae to eat if they like it. I am going to get veggies in there asap. I cant think of another reason hes not doing so good, but im not the most experienced person either :/ Have a variety of other (peaceful) fish in the tank with him and none of the others have shown any problems at all.
If anyone has any ideas that might help out, let me know! I dont want to lose this beautiful fish!

Sounds like he has a problem with his swim bladder.

can you expand on that? i'll start looking it up but i can take all the info i can get. also ill take a quick video and link it to show what hes looking like
Edit: Just looked it up. I doubt thats the problem. hes barely swimming unless he has to, trying to stay out of hte jets and just lay on the bottom. when he does swim he can swim upright ok. Im uploading a video right now of him. it went longer than i thought because my lawnmower blenny landed on him so he started moving again haha.

I would take a water sample in to your lfs if you can. IMO your Ph is low, your salinity is low nitrate seem high. If i remember right you have a 75gal tank and several tangs. that much of a bio load and stress is going to cause issues IMO regardless of how large or small they are.
    and yeah test for nitrites

    Hey Sam,
You might want to give Nick at Pet's Playhouse a call. They get in all kinds of sick fish and he's the one that has to try to nurture them back to health. I'm sure he could give you an idea or two. I know he's one of the first people I would ask.

why do you think it would be affecting 1 fish and none of the others or the corals?

This is why I was thinking swim blader. Your parameters are off but not enough that it would affect your fish in my opinion.

FWIW bad parameters aren't necessarily going to "kill off" everything in the tank. It is not terribly uncommon to see only some of your livestock show ill effects, especially early on. I am not saying this is your issue, just saying that you cannot rule it out simply because all of your livestock isn't showing VISIBLE signs of stress.

sam I cant answer that and yeah your params dont seem so far off that it should cause a kill, but then again it could be something your not able to test for like nitrites and the combination of all of them. Sorry i was under the impression you had more then 1 tang. You do have a lot of clowns, I dont suppose you took a closer look and checked for any kind of trauma to the fish? Just watched your video and the frames where it is next to that jawfish, the gill looks like it could be inflamed?
wanted to add the rest of your fish are much hardier then tangs, and can easily hold up to harsher water conditions.

he looks extremely thin, most likely he is a gonner, unless you can get him to eat A LOT!!! Unwillingness to eat may be due to some other internal disease.

I agree, also looks like he has Ich. I can stop and take a look. I live in Washburn and work in CF.

Skin is blotchy in the video. If he has white pinheads on the skin and its as bad as it looks give him a freshwater dip. you need to match temp. and PH. It will take a under feed, over stress fish fast. You need to feed him as often as he will take in some food. Seaweed helps their immune system but feed him what ever he will eat.
