I figured out what I think is a new use for a toilet float...I've always tried to keep a mj1200 w/ a venturi on it in my make up water to keep it oxygenated and ready for a water change.  Well, problem is, it was never at the right height.  It was either too low, or too high.  I ziptied my MJ1200 to toilet float and it works great!  Always at just the right depth.  Stays about 6" below the surface all the time.  Not bad for a $0.95 plastic toilet float!

This isn't for mixing...this is just for aerating/oxygenating the water.  I have another pump that I use for mixing/pumping the water out of the storage tank.  Not sure what size it is...an inexpensive Rio.
I was going to make a float out of some 3" PVC...buy a couple of caps and attach it to a piece of PVC...but then I saw how expensive the 3" PVC caps were.  As I was walking out of the plumbing dept at Menards, I saw these floats.  Much less expensive than making a float from PVC would have been.

AJ, you don't think your mixing pump aerates the water enough? Do you get a whirlpool/swirling effect on the surface? I do, and I kind of thought that probably was enough for gas exchange to occur. IDK it would be interesting to compare DO and ORP under both conditions.
