Ok, so it I wanted to add a sump to my tank, 20-40 gallons (rubbermaid) would I need to do anything special with the water so it doesnt through off my parameters? I was thinking that I could mix my water 2 days before hand like usual, put some PH/Alk buffer in it to bring it up to the same level as my tank and then put it in. What does everyone else think?

Should be fine. I've heard of people having their alk slip a little when they do massive water changes, which is kind of like what your doing but with out the "taking water out" part. Not sure if you'll have this problem or not. Good luck
