New Frag Tank!

I'm working on setting up a new frag tank. Picked this tank up from craigs store. It's 48x24x6" approx 30 gallons. I'm wanting to keep the 40 that I have strictly for RBTA and mushroom production and do all my sps in this nice shallow vessel!

I'm going to build the stand something like this...thoughts?

I'm leaving the end open on the left side there so I can fit my Ca rxr mostly in there. I think it should be okay, maybe I'll put a horizontal brace a little higher up on that side, the tank will only weigh 260lbs all together and it's going to be sitting on concrete. The 40 will sit on a 2x4 frame just to keep it's drain higher than the 30 gallon sump it will drain into.

 

Do I need to laydown foamboard underneath this tank? or just plywood?

You think I can get by with 1/2" plywood? I've already got some birch in my garage.

 

I hooked up my MP20 that I'm going to be using on this tank and filled it with the hose, the wave is awesome!!!! it's so shallow that it pushes a 1/2 wave pretty easy, where the middle of the wave bows up when the outsides are down and vice versa, looks very cool, and great hydro momentum on a reasonable pulse setting. I don't like to drive those vortechs really fast in pulse mode, I think that could be hard on them long term.

 

Well bud, I kind of just ended up throwing it all together, I didn't end up painting it, and I think I'm satisfied with the strength of the stand build, looks pretty solid. You know how these things go, they just happen, not always perfectly or ideally lol.

the faries are still there above the new tank on two shelves, I engineered this whole thing quite precisely, turned out great! haha

 

yup that's the basic plan I used, although I didn't follow it to a T. Instead I used 2x2" tacking strips and secured the 2x4 supports with pocket screws to the bottom rail, and directly through the top 2x4 for security.
