I'm finally going to be getting back into the hobby but need advice. I'm going to be setting up a 40 gallon breeder. I'm going to be doing a bean animal overflow and I'm wondering if 1 inch PVC would be sufficient or do i need to go bigger?

    Any advice is welcome.
    Thank you
    Wes

Ive never made one myself but there was one on my tank and it was 1 1/2.

I say make one with 1" and see if it works well.

There are some really good HOB overflows out there and idk where your ar but there are people that know how to drill glass in almost every area too if you decide to go a different route.

I changed mine because i didnt like the look of pvc in my tank

1" is more than plenty for the amount of water you'll run through a 40g.

I've done a couple 40 gallon tanks for people with 1 inch plumbing and never had a problem.

Bean animal is an awesome drain setup. I ran 1" drains on my 46 bowfront and It could keep up, with a lot of room to spare, running a jeboa DC6000 wide open with probably only about 4' head.
I bet that was 1200gph or so. More than enough turnover through the sump for a 40 gallon tank.

I'm starting the project tomorrow. I'm super excited to get back into the hobby. Just need a skimmer now.
