It's been over 5 years sine I was in Maui last. Where are some good snorkeling sites? I will actually be working but will have a weekend free.

    Sweet!

We snorkeled the Molokini crater which was really cool, but it is pricey to get a trip out there.

Other then that, there are lots of really good spots off the coast. Corals gardens is pretty cool and you can see sea turtles quite often.

    Have Fun!

I really enjoyed Honolua Bay. If you are staying in the Kaanapali area, that is a great option. Black Rock was fun too (massive puffer's everywhere), but way, way too many people there.

Molokini is great, but I think it's a better Scuba spot than snorkeling. I had fun diving there (that's where my Avatar pic is from), but the rest of my family wasn't overly impressed with the snorkeling.

I am leaving next wed. Last time I was in Hawaii, i did go to the crater. I got so sick i didn't really enjoy it. Had to jump into the ocean in order to throw up.....not my best moment....will remember dramamine for this next trip. Someone told me they saw a ton of fish around me tho after i threw up /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Saw a lot of fish rather than coral and i would like to see more corals in native habitat. The beach is right behind the hotel so i can explore there and try to hit some of the off site areas during the weekend. Anyone visit the aquatic center? Wondering what their tanks are like there.

I was also going to check out some lfs's but afraid i will see something I want and spend an arm and a leg to get it shipped back. Anyone know if i can bring purchased corals back on the plane as "luggage"?

will check out coral gardens, honolua bay and black rock.

That brings me to a thought.

Often times I will goto the local grocery store & buy some fresh seafood & make my own chum, put it in a ziplock bag & take with me when I go snorkeling. You cant believe how many fish come out like crazy when you do that!

You'll stop that practice when a tiger shark shows up for a meal... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

What do you people do for a living! I need a new profession, I can't afford a trip to Coralville Lake!
But seriously, have a great time! I've never really wanted to go to Hawaii, my dream is Alaska! Maybe in a few years on my 15th wedding anniversary.

+1 for Honolua Bay - mile marker 14 is ok too for a self guided (e.g. "free") snorkeling trip.

Thanks everyone! I work in agriculture. You'd be surprised how much corn is grown out there.
