Macna just isnt a farmers market that is open to the public.

If you want to just buy coral, goto Spring Fest in two weeks & pay $10

This may be your only chance to go being so close to home.  Well worth the $50!

MACNA is a completely different level of show then most people here have been to. I was totally blown away down in Orlando this past year! You can walk around for 3 days and still notice something new you missed the first 2 days. Every big name in the industry will be their showing off their products, coral vendors will pull out all the stops on what they have available with great prices, and the speakers will pack you with enough information to last a year.

In my opinion if anyone misses this they will be crazy! Plus this is for our club and we can have long term benefits from hosting this. MACNA 2011 is in our own backyard and who knows the next time it will be anywhere near here again.

CRAZY? Not everyone can afford $50 to just go look around. It should prove to be well worth the price of admission though. I'm hoping to make at least 1 day.

Also remember all club members who work at the show will get admission rebates of $10 per hour. So work for 5 hours, you get the next day for free.

For a little over a quarter a day from todays date you will have $50 saved up. It comes up to $0.27 a day exactly...not to shabby.

Juts curious if you ever order anything online? because you typically pay that much in shipping. considering nearly every vendor that we order from will be there with their products, i am going to save a mint on shipping cost. This is not so much of a coral show as it is a chance to see new and innovative technology being brought in to our hobby.

But as Xroads said, if it is just coral you are after, spring fest in 2 weeks and it is only $10 to get in.

Frankly, if you're goal is just to look around and get cheap coral, then (as Xroads mentioned) go to Spring Fest and/or Fall Fest.   MACNA is a lot less about cheap corals and a lot more about interacting with experts, vendors and others who share similar interests in the hobby.   It's a hobby related trade show on an entirely different scale than anything we've had in Iowa before.  It's like the "Consumer Electronics Show" of reef tanks.
And to reiterate Craig's other point, Club members will have the opportunity to have their entire admission reimbursed (up to and including a full access pass).
Personally, I think that if you're really into this hobby and you don't attend MACNA for at least 1 day, you're nuts because who knows the next time it's going to be right here in Iowa (this is the first time it's even been in the midwest in years).
Also, to put it bluntly, if someone with a reef tank is worried about spending $50, they are probably not in the right hobby...
