Just checking to see what people thought.  I have a 240 gallon that i am setting up.  It is 8' x2'x2'.   It will just be fish and maybe some xenia and anthilia to cover the rock.  I don't need alot of light but wondering if i put a 48" fixture over the middle with 2 250 watt metal hay lights if this would be seficent or do i need to get 2 48" t5 fixtures to cover the whole tank.  I don't want it realy bright as some of the fish i will have in it will be more of a noternual fish so i would like them to be more active.
    Here is my stocking lish:
    4-5 tangs
    snowflack eel
    3-4 wrasses (large)
    lion fish
    cat shark

also if you see something wrong with the stocking list please let me know.

Honestly it would be overkill. you could get by with a simple strip light.

oh and your lion fish will eat your wrasse or any other fish it can force in its mouth.

Like your average ordinary light that comes standard with any fresh water tank. Fish only tanks dont need any kid of special lighting.

ok. I plan on getting the wrasses at a large size and getting one that grow very large so that he can't fit them in his mouth. Is this still not ok?

I would think so as long as the lionfish can not fit them in his mouth.

I think a nice 48" T5 fixture would work well. Don't need crazy amounts of bulbs. You can play with the bulb combo to get the color you are wanting. Even fish colors can look completely different depending on bulb choice.
Actually AC&C had some great prices on Tek elite fixtures. 60" 4 bulb for $250. I picked one up for my tank. That might be something to look at depending on what you are budgeting for lighting.

Those are florescent and would work just fine for a fish only tank.
