Do Leather corals go though a time where they don't come out. I have had this coral since the start and it has never go longer then a 24 hour stint with out showing off itself. It has been growing real well. I notice that my parameters are all ok, but Salinity was at the low end at 1.020. It was showing on my float type tester just above the Green area. I need a better tester next.
Anyone have any input? Or just give it time?

I would think you probably want the salinity a bit higher. Like 1.024-1.026 for corals.

thanks Pete I assume it went down after I added Fresh water for evap... I know the ideal is 1.024 to 1.026. I have gotten it back to 1.024 in the last 24 hours slow as I could.

The problems I am having is when I think I know what my readings are. I find that the API test kits just suck. At least for the Phos that is. Amo=0 Nitate=0 Calc=480 HK=12 or 200ppm I think it its. I can't seem to figure out the color that my test comes out. It matches the R/O but don't look real yellow like the color chart says 0 is. I am getting real frustrated by this. My tank has been under the Alga bloom and I was thinking it was lighting or Phos. My cheap bulbs where getting bad I think and causing Phosphate. I notice the color of light change a little. I bought new light bulbs a week ago(Coralife HO 10k T5) (Atanic also) and now my coral love it.Alga is seeming to slow down but not gone. Brain coral, candy can and all others have never looked better other then a green star polyp and the leather. Both do this peek a boo stuff, but with the leather its been it longest time not coming back out. All coral show growth and maybe I am just panicking, but I am very frustrated my the testing not coming out correct or my in ability to read the test color. This is why I am panicking. Testing With API and Saltwater sucks. I have been in the hobby for 20 years and have never had this much frustration from a test kit. lol pulling my hair out.

If my R/O water comes out the same as tank water should I assume its 0? The should be no Phos

Salinity is in the middle of Green now on floating tester. It was just on the edge before top most. So the Tester was floating lower in the water.
As for adding Iodine I am not sure about my Phos so if I add Iodine will this affect this?

After a tank cycles the only tests I run is kh, calc, phosphate and then about once a week I test nitrate and ph. Iodine should not add phosphates, you'll get that from food and poop. Get a media reactor and run gfo in it. I prefer the ones from bulk reef supply seem a little easier to work with. Test your phosphates coming out of reactor. If it tests for any than change it. You'll always have phosphates its just trying to keep them under control.

Thanks guys. I maybe panicking, I will just keep a watch out on every thing. How do you know if your leather dead or dyeing? I need to ask just to know these things.

It could be adapting to the new light bulbs.
I have a yellow fiji leather (Sarcophyton elegans) and had a similar concern a while back.  It quit opening after I moved a light fixture a few inches and it had more direct light.  You can try googling "Sarcophyton not opening".  Some people say that it is not uncommon for them to quit opening up for short periods of time, a couple weeks-sometimes longer, and then come out of it.  I would watch for coloration, tissue health, drooping, no spots, or other signs.
I reduced my light intensity and within a couple days, it started to partially open.  A few days later, it was opening up like normal.

It takes quite alot to kill a leather ;+) Leathers also will shed/sluff off . Sometimes when a reefer thinks a coral is dead, they leave it in their tank and weeks/months later it reappears as a new coral frag ;-0) Nice looking toadstool!! ;-0)
