last week I added a kalkwasser stirrer from two little fishies.
My goodness what a difference it has made in such a short amount of time.  new growth, more polyp extension, and just better looking color over all.
While I only have about 6 frags in my tank, this one little piece of equipment has helped me keep my cal and alk in check with near 0 hassle

ok...dumb question...is a stirrer the same as a reactor? I did a search for a kalk stirrer from two little fishies and only got reactor hits.

For kalk, I have used Mrs. Wage pickling lime which is about $3/lb at Fareway and I've also recently switched to BRS Kalk when I discovered it was actually cheaper than Mrs Wage's at $2.66/lb. I use about 15-18 gallons of kalk per week in my ATO.

yeah i considered that but again i do not care to use things that are not ment for aquaria because of possible impurities. Sure it may cost me more but I have peace of mind

I think we use "reactor" too liberally in the hobby. We tend to use it for anything and everything that essentially holds media of any sort. Probably the silliest use of the term "reactor" is in terms of biopellets. Really, it is more a place for culturing bacteria, than a reactor of any kind. I would assume this all stemmed from the "calcium reactor" which is actually a more true reactor than most things we tend to call reactors in the hobby.

Also, FWIW, being that Mrs. Wage's is food grade, you couldn't find a safer product. Not trying to sell you on it, just saying. Slapping a brand name and selling it as a saltwater aquaria product is just that. I wouldn't be surprised if all they did is buy up food grade calcium hydroxide and tag it with a "use this in your fish tank because it's better" slogan.
