    Any other Maiden fans around?
I recorded their new documentary and concert off of Palladia this weekend and I've watched both of them about 5 times already...
I was a huge fan of them when I was growing up and I've sort of rediscovered them recently...

    Wow!
Yeah...I grew up listening to Iron Maiden/Sabbath/etc. then later evolved into a huge Hendrix fanatic (used to play guitar as well).
I saw Maiden when I was 12-13 or so, saw them @ Palmer in Davenport with .38 Special.  Think it was the "Number of the Beast" tour.

LOL! .38 Special and Maiden don't seem like they would go together very well... Southern Rock & British Metal?

I saw Maiden live in '86 in Norman Oklahoma for the "Somewhere in Time" tour and they were great. Vinny Vincent opened for them (not so great).

I'm also a fan of Hendrix and just about any music that has great guitar work... That's one of the reasons I like Maiden so much. The multiple lead guitarists are great.

I'm not a huge Iron Maiden fan, but I do have the VHS Ten Years Wasted which is really good.

Everytime I listen to a band like Iron Maiden (since I missed their hayday), I always think of Spinal Tap.

JB, check out the band Shellac. If you like guitaring, this guy is a nerdy technical version of most bands. He DIY his own amps, pedals and what not. The band is led by Steve Albini who engineered albums for bands such as Nirvanna and the Smashing Pumpkins. He used to lead a band called Big Black that you might have heard of growing up. They were around back in the mid 80's.

    I googled my show date:

    Palmer Auditorium
    Brady and 12th
    Davenport, IA
    •05/26/82: .38 Special, Iron Maiden
Guess I was 14 at the time.

BTW, if you are a Maiden fan, Best Buy has the "Flight 666" Blue-Ray, DVD and CD soundtrack on sale this week.

I picked up the DVD and CD soundtrack myself.

Saw Maiden on "Seventh Son" tour at Five Seasons. Big fan since the 80s and more into the older stuff. I enjoyed flight 666 for the music quality and the entertainment value between songs.

    Matt,

I'm mainly a fan of that period too. I like all of the album from the self titled "Iron Maiden" to Seventh Son, but Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time are my favorites.

You know, the more I think about it the more I'm pissed that I didn't find a way to go to their concert in Chicago last summer. It sounds like that tour might have been the last where they revisit that great material in mass.

    JB,
I think we both have the same favorites. A group of my old high school friends went to the Chicago show, and I'm kicking myself for not going. Probably the best show this area will have for years in my opinion.
