I have a 5+ inch yellow-striped maroon clownfish in my 55 gallon display tank. I would like to pair her with a juvenile maroon. I have a small maroon in quarantine. He is eating well, and seem comfortable in his tank. He has been there 3 weeks now and in the next week or two, I was thinking of starting to try to move him over. I would like to follow the pairing concept I found on reefcentral. From what I have read and heard, this is the best strategy. The info can be found at: http://tempuri.org/tempuri.html
My question is, does the specimen container need to be inside the tank? will a breeder box on the outside work if they can still see each other? Has someone done this before and have any recommendations? I am looking at getting a specimen box yet. If anyone in the des moines area has one I could maybe borrow for a week or so, I would greatly appreciate it.
Again, any advice I would greatly like.
    Thanks!Pete

i have in tank specimen box that you could barrow. Good luck with this. I had a matted pair for marroons that were together for a year then i put them in a different tank and she almost killed him in a day. He had barrly any fins left and just kinda laid on the bottom. i had to get rid of her. if you wanna try that box so they can't reach either that would be fine with me. just let me know.

I have read of some success doing this but I have too say more people have failed. Maroons are very aggressive. IMO you would be better off taking both to the store and getting 2 very small ones already living together.

Yeah, I have heard that they can be quite agressive. I figure, it does not hurt to introduce in the specimen box. If the yellow stripe goes on the attack, then I guess I will have to maybe get rid of the small one. (At which point, you might just see a F/S add lol.) I thought about bringing them in and getting a smaller pair but the large yellowstripe is so pretty, I would have a hard time parting with a clown of that size.

I will have to let everyone know how it goes. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif (Any other suggestions are always appreciated)

Well, I wanted to thank bearsareawsome a ton for letting me borrow a tank specimen box. I took the little guy out of the QT he had been in for over 4 weeks. (He was looking good and it was time to give the transfer a shot).
I put him in the box and let him sit in the tank for a day and a half. I moved him into the Display tank today and they seem to have really hit it off. The two of them hang out in the bubble tip anemone and the big female even shoos off the damsels when they get too close. (Oh why did I get those damsels in the beginning. lol.)
So, here are a few pics of the happy two. [IMG]    [IMG]

Congrats Pete! I hope they continue to work out. As the one grows/matures, hopefully there will be no aggression. Keep your eye on them /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
