I was bored today so decided to do something for the tank.
A few months ago I decided to purchase an automatic neck cleaner for my skimmer.  Because my skimmer basically sucks it just didn't work out.  The neck cleaner was build specifically for my skimmer it was going to be hard to sell and I was probably really going to loose my *** on it.  Rather than just let it sit there I decided to build an Kalkwasser stirrer out of it.
Sure I could have just bought a stirrer but I literally only have room for a 3" chamber.  As far as I know, no one builds that small of stirrer so I built this one.  It's constructed using the neckcleaner's motor and a modified Two Little Fishies phoasban 150 reactor.  It took a little doing but turned out pretty darn well. Now I don't have to add kalkwasser to my top off water anymore! Yeah!!

Very innovative Jeremy. Are you going to be looking for a new skimmer now?

Nawww.  Due to the size of my sump and stand I'm pretty limited when it comes to skimmers.
The one I am running now is rated for up to 125 gallons.  It's really an OK skimmer but doesn't really ever produce a wet skimate.  The only skimate I ever get from it is usually just a thick layer of crap built up in the neck every week or so.
That is why the neck cleaner didn't work.  It would basically just knock all the crud built up in the neck back down into the body making it totally useless.  Now, if I had a higher end skimmer that would produce a wet skim I am sure it would would work great.  When I tried skimming wet with my Reef Octopus it would flood every time I fed.
There is a really nice Reef Dynamics sump/skimmer combo @ AC&C that would be perfect for my cube.  Right now I don't have the funds or the ambition to upgrade.
