Went to work at 3, everything was fine. Brother texts me at 6 and says my fish tank is making the house smell like bad eggs, and its a little cloudy. He said nothing is dead, everything looks like its doing fine. I get home, take all my corals out, smelled them to see if they were dying but they weren't. did pretty much a 100 percent water change. Take is a 14gal biocube. I took out 3 gallons and put a knew 3 gallons back in, 3 times. My problem is, why did this happen, will the water change fix it, and are my rocks/sand going to be permently smelly?

Sounds like something going back to nature in there somewhere, perhaps in the filtration sections. Have you checked in there? Are you missing anything that should be in there? Could be some food.

    But most importantly:

    Stop.

    Breathe.

    Think.

I've discovered that's the best advice I've gotten or can give when something starts to go sideways.

My filtration consist of chemi pure, purigon, cheato and a protein skimmer. I tested ammonia and nitrates and they were at 0. It couldn't be over feeding cause i feed them a pinch of flakes.

Skimmer collection cup? The smell you describe is the smell of a skimmer collection cup.

Don't worry. I didn't mean you were over feeding, just that something was decomposing somewhere. Perhaps in the skimmer collection cup.

How long has this tank been set up? Have you heard of the nitrogen cycle? Sounds like a classic case of new tank syndrome.

about 6 months, but i started it with used tank water, and live rock and sand to help speed up the cycle.

So did you check the skimmer collection cup and clean it out?
