Hello gang great to be here!
We are getting ready book our rooms for MACNA and needed to know which hotel would you choose?
We were thinking downtown because of the sky walk. We kinda want to spend some time checking things out around the city as well.
How far is the hotels from the venue?
    Thank you.

    Hey

Marriott is about 4 blocks, lots of cool places within walking distance. This is where most people will be so if you want to socialize & hang out, it will be the place to be!

The quality is closer to event, and has free internet & breakfast though.

    Good things about both places!

I would recommend downtown as there will be lots of stuff to do within walking distance. Lots of good places to eat and places for adult beverages if you are into that. Also I believe the farmers market will be going on Saturday and that is a pretty big event!

That's on thing that's going to be really great about this event. Last year was nice because the event center and hotel were connected, but by the same token, you couldn't really go anywhere else without taking a cab or rental car.

I think having access to the entire downtown area via Skywalk is going to make for a pretty great event, especially "after hours". I hope that people aren't hesitant to come because they think Des Moines is going to be lame... That's just not going to be the case.... It may not be the family vacation spot that Orlando is, but there is still going to be a lot to do right within walking distance of the event center and hotels...

Me and the family are actually excited about coming to Iowa. Somewhere we have never been before. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif We're going to be in town by Tuesday, any suggestions for some things we have to do while we are here? Any cool LFS in the area?

Downtown is cool, zoo is good, and it is free thursday, friday, Sat, & sunday with your MACNA pass.

Nice bass pro shop, and shopping for your wife.

    For the wife:

    Malls:

Valley West Mall and Jordan Creek Mall, both in West Des Moines (10 and 15 minutes from downtown. Add 5-10 minutes during rush hour (if you call it that))

Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines, Northwest of downtown (10 minutes)

South Ridge Mall in Des Moines (south of downtown, 10-15 minutes)

    Other shopping:

West Glen (WDM), right off I-35/80 on Mills Civic Pkwy (near Jordan Creek mall)

The Shops at Roosevelt, right off I-235 on 42nd St

If you like to Golf, Des Moines has some nice public courses. Waveland is within 15 minutes of downtown, Blank Golf Course is by the zoo and about 20-25 minutes from downtown. (Both reasonably priced and city of Des Moines courses). Jester Park by Grimes is nice and Otter Creek in Ankeny is a nice course and back 9 was redone last year. Also have Terrace Hills in Altoona and Toad Valley on the east side of Des Moines both reasonably priced. If you want a better golf course their is a TPC in Polk City and the Legacy in Norwalk,(very nice courses but expected to pay more.) If this was my first time to Des Moines I would play Waveland as it is the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River and has a great tree line of 100 year old oaks.
