I'm wanting to put my heater from my dt to my sump. Can I lay it down? Also I've read that it won't adequitly heat my dt from the sump.

Mines laying down in the sump, works fine. I used to keep it in my overflow, that worked too.

As far as laying on its side, I would check with your heater instructions, or box. I believe some of them have to stay upright.

mine are all laying down in the sump, and I have no issues keeping the DT warm enough.
I think if its a fully submersible heater you should be fine laying them down, but like mpivit said it wouldn't hurt to check the instructions.
