Manual removal and good reefkeeping /site/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif" align="absmiddle" border="0">  I only had it after my tank crash........ now I have none 6 mo later.  I also have a yellow tang, but the tang is not the reason it's gone, although it will eat some, it's really just changing your water on a regular basis, using quality salt, not over-feeding, a good skimmer etc. etc.

I DO WATER CHANGES EVERY WEEK. HAVE NO FISH IN THIS REEF TANK. I ALSO USE INSTANT OCEAN SALT. AS FOR PHOS RETRACTOR IAM REALLY TRYING TO KEEP THIS A SIMPLE TANK. ANY 2 PART PRODUCTS TO REMOVE THE ALGAE? ITS JUST STARING TO COME IN ITS NOT REALLY TAKING OVER. I JUST WANT TO NIP IT IN BUTT BEFORE IT DOES TAKE OVER.

Algae doesn't live on nothing.  It's getting nitrates and/or phosphates from somewhere.... maybe the rock?  Was it base rock or rock from another tank?  Did you cook the rock before putting it into this tank?  Even if your water tests 0 for nitrates/phosphates, it can be in your rock.  Keeping your rockworck clean by occasionally blowing it off with a turkey baster will keep debris from settling on the rock too.  I assume you're using RO/DI water?

Hello, all of the methods above are great help, but I have tryed to replace skimmers and livestock, purchased a phos reactor. But w/ little effect. About a week ago GIRS member wolf1 showed me a thread about vodka and sugar doseing. After reading almost all available info i decided to dose sugar. After the first day i noticed a lot of free floating hair algae. After a week it is really thinning out. Remember to do your homework and dont blame me if it dosnt work 4 u. But having said that i think that this is a unignorable partner in hair algae removal. Check out the thread in the GIRS Discussion Forum (sorry i dont know how to make a link). I hope that this will work for you as well as it has for me![IMG]
