Fragging acans and Toadstool

I have 2 questions regarding fragging.
    1.  I have a very large Toadstool I need to detach from a large rock in my DT.  Can I use a sharp knife and cut as close to rock/base of the toadstool w/out harming the coral?  Also - do toadstools usually 'split' themselves?  I've noticed the past couple days my large one appears to be looking to split into two?  I need to take a better look but having difficulty with how it is positioned in the tank.
    2.  Anyone have suggestions on how to frag an acan?

If you cut the whole base of that toadstool you'll likely kill the coral, the best way i would suggest is to pull the rock out of the tank and carefully break the rock under its boot. If you need more info just pm me. And for the acan frag, a dremel with a diamond blade or a diamond bandsaw, also if you need more info or need to use on pm me

I tried cutting a mushroom off with a scalpal that same way...the whole coral turned to goo within a day and I had to siphon it out /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif

I got 2 toadstools that had been cut in this manner. They almost died, after a month of nursing them they came around. I would never suggest cutting them off at the base.
    Good luck, with the coral.

Thanks! I am going to try to remove the rock tonight and chisel around the coral to get it off the rock. The rock is fairly decent in size so hope all goes well without too much issue/damage.

What are you going to do with those Acan frags? I'd like some /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

This is a topic i found on RC.... people do it but, id rather be safe than sorry.
just seems like it would cause unnecessary stress on the coral.

If you can remove the rock, that would be best.  Otherwise, based on the size of your toadstool and the fact that it hasn't been attached to the rock all that long (a few months now, right?), I think that it would survive if you gently pried it from the rock.  It might not be happy for a couple of weeks after that, but I think it would live.  Toadstools are very hardy.  Its amazing the way one can cut frags off it.
