Has anyone ever made one of the egg crate/foam/rock walls?
I've read several threads but most of them are a yr or 2 old and I'm interested in how they hold up overtime.
If you have made one what foam did you use and over time did it create any problems in your tank.  As the threads went on it seemed that at first people used the foam called "great stuff" but over time seemed to think "pond and rock" foam worked and looked better.
Just curious about any personal experiences so please don't link a thread unless it's yours...haha..i've probably read most of them.  Long threads over several years are confusing regarding what actually worked for people in the long term.

I know folks that have had trouble keeping it from floating. I'm using agrocrete instead myself. I've cast about...uh..20 rocks so far, and its a heavy, horrible mess.....but I can make *exactly* what I want.

Our Camera is still MIA, but I've been using 1 part pearlite (to make it weigh less), 1 part sand, 1 part oyster shells, 1 part portland cement. I cast in in tubs of playsand, let it cure a bit, and am attaching it in the tank with silicon caulk. So far so good.....

The floating issue is the portion of real rock to foam so I'm not as concerned about anything floating. Most of the threads I have read zip tie or scilicon the rock to that egg crate/pvc, then foam around it and cut the foam part off as much as possible.. My question is the affect, if any to a tank, with the foam and if there was any real issue with that.

It's not that they make the rcok wall out of foam.

This is my thread. I used the Great Stuff red can. Haven't had any trouble holding up, but mine is still newer. I have experienced much longer cycle time, but to be expected when everything is dry. As far as holding up, everything seems to be good as of now. The only thing I would of done different with the wall is when putting the epoxy on the foam, I would of put it on the back side as well. The foam will turn soft in the water, but stays hard if covered with the epoxy.

Troy...thanks for the link.  I knew I had read that someplace but couldn't seem to find in on here when I looked.
Is there anything you would do different?  I want to try it just to try it...lol

The only thing I think I would do different is to make sure that its completely covered in the epoxy, which will help protect the foam from getting water logged.
On the floating issue, just make sure that you use plenty of rock.
