I'm officially on vacation, therefore Its time to get started on getting my fish room going. I'm going to have over 300 gallons in my basement, which is not going to be sectioned off, so its just gonna be in a corner of my unfinished, open basement. Just curious what other members with fish rooms, or with a high volume of water, are doing to control the humidity. Did a quick search on Google and looked at quite a few posts through different forums and got mixed reviews. I thought a high volume bathroom fan hooked to a thermostat would do the trick, along with a dehumidifier. Majority went with this, but a few said the thermostat was a bad idea and to have the fan running 24/7. Anybody care to chime in, I would GREATLY appreciate it. As I have a smaller house, and humidity is already at times a small issue. Thanks!!!

I have a dehumidifier running all of the time in the back room where I have my sump, refugium and frag tank. I have it set to 50% humidity and I think it makes a major difference.

Before I ran it, that room always felt "wet", my tools all rusted really bad and there was surface mold in a few spots.

I haven't had any such issues since adding the dehumidifier (which I have setup to just drain into my house's sump pit)

I have the bathroom fan on a humidistat, but it runs almost constantly I think. I also run a dehumidifier, but really that doesn't come on too frequently. It will go a few days before I have to empty it, and the bin really isn't all that big.

JB what size dehumidifier are you running? Do you have a fan in your fish room to compensate for the heat produced by the dehumidifier?
