What's the price on these things? Looks like they are using crees (the same as most DIY rigs). Wonder how they compare.

They are expensive almost 800 bucks acording to that site.  They look nice but pricey.  They use cree 5w leds which most DIYs don't, but they also use 3w ones too which most DIYs do use.  They also use many more colors so you can really customize the look of your tank.  These you could probably get more of the mh look with then the normal diy kit where they tend to be a little bit more on the blue side, again the usual ones it all depends how you build your diy.  I am really starting to experiment with somethings and bought a bunch of different leds and even got some 5 and 10w leds to mess around with and see what I can create.  Should be interesting.  LEDs are fun to mess around with.

I wish they could have made that fan shroud more flush and unnoticeable, but thats really my only gripe. I do like the 2 groupings of leds though. I'm going to seriously consider these after I get to see them first hand.

How long have these lights been out??? Can we even compare them to AI lights which have been around for awhile? I know they sound AMAZING but time will tell how great they really are. I don’t know if I would buy these over AI lights just yet. [IMG]

they're not out yet. They are pretty much being unveiled at Macna. I'm sure lots of testing has been done on them, but only time will tell if and how they will compare to AIs

If it was me I wouldnt by them just from first looks and hearing them talk about the light. The bottom fan is pulling up through the fixture which in turn is going to pull salt spray and all that good stuff through them. When they were asked about this they said fans can be replaced easy....but kind of a pain when you have to send your fixture in every 6 months or so.

I was excited about the fixture but after seeing it in person I am very disappointed. I love my vortechs so i do support the company but I won't be touching this light unless they change the design. I was really excited for a nice black fixture too......oh well

Stopped by at the AI booth at MACNA, and found out that the AI Sol's have had a price drop to $399. That's about a two hundred dollar drop. They also are displaying a pair of Sols in BLACK. New hanging system too. They also are showing a new module that looks pretty awesome. It's wireless, but they are also going to be releasing a wireless control module for the Sols. AI is really a responsive company.

Were they selling them, or did they just lower the price on them?

the price drop is permanent from what i been reading. the new led they came out with is cheaper then the old price of their current fixture is why.

I thought the new fixture was $429, but I might be wrong. I didn't ask if they were selling them, but in the past, they have referred you to a retail outlet. Lots of people there were selling them however. Salty Supply had them displayed and Dirk's might have.

These lights were not so well rated by sanjay in his led lighting talk.

Best led I saw at the show was the vertex 260 models. The Nothing came close to them in my opinion.
