New to the game, and I am planning on drilling my 40 gal breeder tank. Looking for advice/tips on drilling and any recommendations on overflows/returns that you have had success with? Have my DIY sump in the works as well. Any advice there as well would be greatly appreciated!

I had a standard 40B that I had planned to drill...it wasn't labeled when I bought it, but the bottom ended up being tempered. I'm told the 40B is really hit or miss for being tempered or drillable.

The 40 has a tempered bottom but you should be able to drill the one of the side panels but always check with polarized glass.
