Advice? DI resin

I have a 5 stage brs ro di plus I bought second hand a while back. I'm just wondering how long your guys' di resin lasts roughly? I use the brs color changing stuff and I'm only getting about 60 gallons until it exhausts completely, is that normal? It runs at about 52 psi and I changed the sediment and carbon blocks before the last batch with similar results. Maybe the ro membrane is out? Thanks for your input

How old is you ro membrane?

My di resin went bad faster when my membrane needed changed. Also I found with adding a booster pump my membrane lasts longer

Don't go by color. You need to get a TDS meter. Mine goes yellow right away, but I still run 0 TDS for quite awhile.

Like Armydog said if the membrane is bad you will go through more DI.

You will probably want to test the TDS of the production water. I know of several people that had brand new bad membranes. Used membranes, you have to be aware of because if they ever completely dried out, they can be toast.

I'm not sure how old the membrane is because it's been in there since I bought it. I've been thinking about getting a booster pump but i wanted to see what you guys thought first. The unit came with the input and output tds meter. Maybe I should just stop being a cheap *** broke *** college kid and start buying new equipment hahahah thank you guys

Output TDS on the RO output or on the DI output? Can you rig it up to check TDS on the RO output?

I have a bunch of extra tds meters. I'll drop one off at matts tomorrow for ya.

Whoops, read that wrong. Does the meter work?

Yeah the meter seems to respond quickly to the changes I made so it seems to work good, oh and the tds meter is hooked up to the input and the output of the di canister. so here's what I found: if I hooked it to the ro membrane connected to the sediment and carbon blocks it would come out at 5-6 tds, if I hooked it up to solely the ro membrane it would come out at 9-10tds(this is before it get to the di resin). Then the output of the di resin would be 1-2 tds and 3-4 tds respectively and this is completely orange or yellow or whatever exhausted color is remember.

Are you saying that it reads 5 to 6 TDS out of the pre-filter blocks, before the RO membrane? That doesn't seem right...

No sorry I didn't measure what it is for just the pre-filter blocks, the 5-6 tds was through the pre-filter blocks and the ro membrane but before the di (which would be the regular measurement I was reading before but I moved it so it would read the water before it got to the Y of the waste water) . The raw water coming out of the well was at 327 tds and when ran only through the ro membrane and nothing else was at 16 tds.

check input water and between the RO membrane and the DI stage. A good quality membrane will be 98% rejection. If it needs replaced buy a good one, or just plan on throwing away money on DI. The one I get typically runs over 99% rejection.
I make probably at least a couple thousand gallons of water a year and I only change my DI once a year. Prefilters twice a year. Typically I am only about 1ppm TDS after the membrane. CR has pretty good water out of the tap.

What psi is yours running at?

Didn't realize you are on a well out there. That is going to make a huge difference. Booster pump would probably make the membrane run a little more efficient. Sounds like your membrane is still good though. 60 gallons does not seem right for the DI though. I would try different DI resin, I typically love BRS, but after a couple bad experiences with their filters and DI I won't ever buy those items from them again.

    about 60psi

My psi is 75 before the booster pump then 115psi after. I make probably 250g of RODI a month haven't changed the brs color changing di in 2 months 0 tds

yeah, my BRS color changing resin goes a lot longer before changing, I haven't tracked it, but I use 2 DI canisters and I bet I put 200-300g through it before the first one goes completely yellow, and the 2nd is still blue

What are your incoming TDS readings?

    50-60 tds
